Obviously, the town council had to have an Extraordinary General Meeting about all that had happened. It had seemed, in the circumstances, the least they could do. The Chair, Carrie Anne Christopher, had begun with an address noting for the minutes that she was terribly sorry for not having been present during the unfortunate events in question. ‘I mean, I pop off to see my Aunt for an evening and by the time I get back the town is burning down,’ she had said. ‘It’s all terribly unfortunate.’
