The morning of the match. And what a bright, perfect, summer Saturday it was, with just a few streamers of high cloud, waiting to be evaporated by what the weather reports were calling ‘a scorcher’. Lizzie, praying for just about everyone and everything that morning, had reflected on how, during her own childhood, that word had signified only summer fun.
